The Khaduuii

It is often said that the clearest illustration of the Ascons’ unfathomable nature is their decision to admit the Khaduuii species to the Universe. Doing so was effectively casting a lamb among wolves.

One of the central aspects of Khaduuii culture is its religion, an ancient system of beliefs based on an unconditional respect for life. According to the Khaduuii faith every creature (from the most basic organism to the most hyper-intelligent multidimensional entity) is sacrosanct. The taking of life is anathema to a Khaduuii believer. Even their name reflects this esteem for life; though the translation is somewhat difficult, the name “Khaduuii” essentially means “sacred and perfect due to being alive.”

Wiseacres – The chief leaders

In addition to the sanctity of life, knowledge and learning are highly regarded among the Khaduuii. Their scholarship and intellectual capacity are generally regarded as unprecedented. Over the millennia, they have accumulated vast knowledge and a social system built on the foundation of that knowledge. Their chief leaders – the Wiseacres – are considered to be the wisest and most learned inhabitants of the Universe. Even the evolution of the species has been colored by this emphasis on learning by way of genetic manipulation overseen by the Wiseacres. The Khaduuii today are very much a product of their own design.

Because of their unconditional respect for life, battle and warfare have always posed a serious problem for the Khaduuii. A long-standing tradition of non-violence meant that, over the centuries, many innocent Khaduuii died by refusing to do battle with violent enemies. Finally, however, with the development of EMI technology, the Khaduuii found a way to defend themselves by using electromagnetic impulses to target enemy electronics without harming any living organisms. By means of precisely controlled EMI pulses, even a fleet of ships could be disabled in seconds without the loss of life. Unfortunately it quickly became clear that relying on EMI as a defensive measure was not enough to dissuade increasingly clever enemies. After much debate, the Wiseacres made a difficult decision to find a compromise between their people’s need to defend themselves and their deep-seated respect for life. They enlisted mercenaries for their protection in order to ensure survival of their species. Today the Khaduuii mercenary units and EMI-equipped blocker fleet are some of the most battle-ready forces in the Universe.

The ambassador of the peacemaking

Despite their military might, however, their deep capacity for diplomacy and politics make the Khaduuii able to solve the majority of their conflicts quickly and by peaceful means. They cultivate excellent relations with others in the Universe. They are members of the Species Supervising the Universe. And in general, they are respected for their wisdom and pacifism.

According to legend, the Khaduuii and the Human species are relatives. The Khaduuii are said to be the long-lost inhabitants of an Earth civilization known as Atlantis. Their non-violent nature drove them to depart Earth and its continuous wars and violence, leaving their island nation to crumble and eventually be lost to the sea. Other legends suggest that the Khaduuii sought out Earth and its human occupants because of the coincidental similarities between the two species. These alternate legends describe the Khaduuii settling on Earth in order to assist Humanity’s development but eventually becoming disenchanted with Human violence and departing. None of these legends have been proved or disproved.
